Meanish Meon 78

Date: Sunday 29 Oct 2017
Time: 9:00am
Location: Romsey

The Meanish Meon is based on the Mean Meon that was run a couple of years ago.  It is mainly on narrow and traffic light roads but entrants may find that their average speed will be reduced because of the nature of the roads.  Entrants should ensure that their tyres are in good condition as we will be well into the Meon flint ‘biting season’.

The route does not have any long-sustained climbs but rather a succession of short sharp ascents. In good weather, these ascents can give good views of the glorious countryside of the Meon Valley.  The route passes Vernon House associated with Admiral Vernon known as “Old Grog”, the Bat and Ball Public House, the home of cricket and the delightful Alresford to Winchester Itchen Valley passing Avington Park, weekend retreat of of King Charles II and King George IV and their mistresses.

Participants should ensure that they are confident of completing the course before dark and should in the event of puncture or a mechanical be prepared to cut short the ride.

REMEMBER:  The clocks go back 1 hour at 2am on Sunday, 29 October, 2017
